Viennese tribute

2019 - Saint-Étienne, “Glass pattern study”’s exposition.

For this project on the research and study of a motif in the world of glass, I wanted to represent the French Art Nouveau movement with its curves and its plant-like visuals. After several questions about the technical realization of these curves, I oriented the development on a style derived from Art Nouveau, coming from Austria: the Viennese Secession.

The authenticity of the glass work in this region led me to the work of the "wheel" cut and its adaptation in Bohemia. Within the production are architectures inspired by the Viennese Secession movement and Bohemian wheel-cut patterns.

I wanted to create a contrast between the strict and straight patterns of these architecture and the imprecise patterns that claim the "handmade" work of Bohemian wheel-cut. I designed several vases that illustrate a dialogue from another time, from a geographical area deeply linked to glasswork.

The spheres at the top of the vases allow the user to direct their plants to create floral patterns.
